The Winfield Public Library contacted me about two weeks ago. The Library is hosting a Civil War display and the lady knew of me and asked if I could get the 8th to do a living history. The date would be Saturday, October 9 of this year (8 AM to 5 PM). They have room for us to set up a camp, perform drills and firing demonstrations (we have approval from the authorities to do this). This will be a one-day event.
Anyone wishing to may arrive Friday evening, camp out, no open fires, but I`m working on arranging something for that, i.e. an above-ground firepit that will look somewhat period. Wood will be provided. Event details are as follows : Civil War money displays, artifact displays, all inside the library (you may bring your own and add to if you wish, but the lady didn`t recommend it for obvious reasons).
Civilian/ladies` activities are on the agenda, also. I know she has contacted Doug McGovern to do his Alexander Gardner impression. Also, J.C. Combs, a professor at WSU has agreed to attend and display his Civil War music talents : good exposure for The Freestaters? Maybe set up a SUVCW booth, many possibilities. Winfield has never had anything like this, so yours truly would be very grateful if some of you would travel down to my little corner of the world and indulge me. If you have any questions, or want more details that I may not have, you may contact Sue Birney at the library 620 221 4470 or at sbirney@wpl.org
This would be a good fun little thing just to get together before Valley Center and Prairie Grove (yeah, I`m gonna talk it up!). You might spread it around, everyone`s e-mail I don`t have.
I hope some of you can make it... thanks.

EVENT ADDED
Valley Center Salute to Veterans
We have been asked to participate in the Valley Center Kansas Veterans day celebration on Saturday November 6, 2010. We will set up a company street and have company drill, firing demonstrations and give talks on the life of the common soldier during the Civil War. This will be a good drill oppoutunity for us to shake off the rust prior to the big Prairie Grove event in early December. This is listed as a Company Max event so please consider attending as this is the ONLY scheduled event in the fall. I'll be the company POC and will be coordinating with the event planners. Please email me if you can and would like to participate. We are "the" featured event for the Veterans Celebration so lets make a good showing and turn out the entire company. I will post and email event updates as they become available Huzzah for the Union!
